"Random Paintings" is an ongoing series of semi-procedural artworks.
But they are not that random, really.

Initially I set up a procedural system that determines the rules for shapes, colors and other variables I want to work with in the current set of pictures.

After that I let myself be surprised what variants the system generates for me.

I then select my favorite "building blocks" and "brushes", tweak them further if necessary and start painting with them in 3D space, animating them etc.

Sometimes I even use another procedural system on top of that to paint in creative tandem with the computer.

This way, these actually highly engineered and formulaic systems can ultimately become very intuitive tools and allow me to work in a "flow" just as if it was a "real" painting process.
